With Chelsea not having had to have faced the frustration of an FA Cup fourth-round replay this week, it has meant that head coach Frank Lampard and his players have been able to enjoy some time away from match-action.
The Blues headed into the Premier League’s inaugural winter break off the back of a 2-2 draw with Leicester City last weekend and will not take to the pitch again until a-week-on-Monday – February 17 – when they welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge.
With well over a week to go until the Blues pit themselves up against their old Premier League rival once again, this period of time could present a great opportunity to Lampard to try and sit down and thrash out his plans for the summer transfer window.
After failing to bolster his squad in January, it is almost certain that Lampard will be desperate to add a whole host of fresh faces to his squad in the summer, as the Blues legend looks to stamp his own authority on his squad.
With that in mind, we round-up all of the day’s very latest Chelsea transfer news.
Blues remain interested in Napoli star
Chelsea are continuing to keep tabs on Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, report Sport Witness.
The Senegalese defender is considered to be one of the best central defenders in the world right now and Chelsea are said to be keeping tabs on the 28-year-old.
However, it is claimed that the Blues’ hopes of landing the defender in the summer may rest on Napoli’s finish in Serie A this season. The club are currently 10th in the table and the prospect of securing Champions League football for 2020/21 looks slim. Failure to get into Europe may mean that Napoli want a quick sale in a bid to get money into the bank account.
Chelsea hopeful of tying down youngster
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are confident that midfielder Tino Anjorin will sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge
The 18-year-old has been on the Blues’ books since the age of just seven-years-old and is thought to be one of the brightest prospects emerging from the academy system.
But Chelsea, after being forced into letting fellow youngsters Clinton Mola and Tariq Lamptey go in January, are desperate to keep Anjorin, with talks between the club and player “progressing well.”
Onana sets sights on Premier League switch
Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has revealed that he wants to leave the Dutch giants this summer, with the Premier League his favoured destination, report the Mail.
Onana’s admission has immediately put Chelsea on high-alert, with the Blues set to make a goalkeeper one of their top priorities this summer, after Lampard opened talks with the Chelsea board to try and offload Kepa Arrizabalaga
In the report, it is claimed that Ajax would want a fee somewhere between £40million – £50million, meaning it would not be a cheap deal for Chelsea to pull off, should they consider a move for the Cameroon international.
