Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to beat Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday

Mark Lawrenson is backing Frank Lampard to secure his first Premier League home win as Chelsea FC manager against Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues succumbed to a 2-1 defeat by Premier League leaders Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge last weekend despite a second-half fightback.

N’Golo Kante scored what ultimately proved to be a consolation goal for Chelsea FC after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino netted in the first half.

The Chelsea FC team still received a standing ovation from the Blues supporters at Stamford Bridge as the fanbase showed their appreciation for their improved second-half display.

Lampard’s side are in 11th place in the Premier League table following a disappointing return of eight points from their opening six games under their club legend.

However, the retired England international has restored some of the feel-good factor at the west London side by giving youngster such as Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount a chance to shine.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to finally record their first home win of the season against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

“Brighton did well in their 0-0 draw at Newcastle last time out and Chelsea hardly played badly either despite being beaten by Liverpool,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“So much happened in that game at Stamford Bridge, it could easily have ended up 2-2.

“Chelsea do have a weakness at the back but I don’t think they have a massive issue there – it is more every lapse is being punished – and I think Frank Lampard will finally be able to celebrate his first home league win as Blues boss on Saturday.

“Brighton will try to play rather than park the bus and they deserve plaudits for that, but it will help Chelsea – just like it helped Manchester City last month.”

Chelsea FC appointed Lampard as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement in the summer despite the Italian head coach leading the Blues to a third-placed finish and the Europa League crown.
