Frank Lampard singled out Mason Mount for praise after Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday
Frank Lampard has admitted that he has been surprised by Mason Mount’s strong start to the season after he helped Chelsea FC claim a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in the first team for the Blues this term and he played a key role in helping the west London side to claim all three points on Saturday.
Mount drew a foul from Adam Webster in the penalty area in the 49th minute and Jorginho stepped up to give Chelsea FC the lead from the spot-kick.
And Willian made the points secure when he doubled the home side’s advantage in the 76th minute with a right-footed shot.
The win was a welcome one for the Blues, and it was their first home victory in the Premier League under new boss Lampard.
And despite Mount not getting on the score-sheet for the Blues on Saturday, Lampard singled out the young forward for special praise.
Speaking to Match of the Day, Lampard said: “The all-round game and quality of Mason – he is the catalyst for us getting in front with his sharpness.
“He was brilliant for me at Derby. I did not expect this level but he is improving daily.”
Lampard went on to underline the importance of his side claiming all three points in front of their home fans.
He continued: “We needed the win. We haven’t had a 90 minute game where we’ve controlled it enough. The only disappointment is we didn’t have more goals. A clean sheet as well. It is good for the confidence of everyone.
“We had a lot of shots first half. But weak finishing and a bit of bad luck. You do start to wonder but you have to remain confident it will come – and it did.”
