Chelsea are interested in signing Atlanta 26-year-old midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi following a suggestion from a club legend.
Sportarena.com claims that the Premier League club have set their views on the Ukraine international who only joined the Italian side in the summer.
The Ukrainian midfielder was reported to be brought to the Blue’s attention by former defensive midfielder Claude Makelele.
Starting his club career in Shakhtar Donetsk, Malinovskyi was sent out on loan to Genk where he surprised the Belgian club enough to sign in a full transfer later.
While playing in the Belgian Pro League, he netted 23 goals in 93 games and was a vital character in them winning the league in the 2018/19 season.
Malinovsky then joined Atlanta for €13.7m, and so far this campaign has made eight games for the club across the Serie A and Champions League.
However, it is on international duty where he has fascinated the most, netting both goals in a 2-0 win over Lithuania and also sparkling in their 2-1 win over Portugal.
Should Frank Lampard’s side make a move, the club would be hoping that the Ukrainian’s defensive skills and hard work ethic match that of Makelele.
French legend was a star in Chelsea’s midfield for five seasons between 2003 and 2008, winning two Premier League titles.
Makelele rejoined the Chelsea in August 2019 in a coaching staff.
