Must Read: Klopp Makes an Important Comment Which Will Concern Chelsea Fans

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has indicated that his club won the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday against Chelsea despite having not played well.

As quoted by the Reds official website, the German tactician said: “We know that we have to improve a lot of things, but a lot of things were good.

“We can play and we will play better football but for tonight it was only about winning and we did that.

“We found again a way to win the game – and that’s big, really big, it feels incredibly big and I’m really happy about that.”

The Blues can take plenty of positives from the game

It would have been a major boost to the West London club if they managed to win the game. It would have given the fans and players something to be motivated about following the shock 4-0 demolition at the hands of Manchester United last weekend. Nevertheless, Frank Lampard’s side were in the game all the way to the end and only lost via the lottery of penalties.

Cup specialist Olivier Giroud opened the scoring for Lampard’s charges during the 36th minute of the game before Liverpool star Sadio Mane equalized during the 48th minute. The Senegal international would later go on to put his side ahead during the first half of extra time. Jorginho however brought the Blues back into the game soon thereafter from the penalty spot after Adrian brought down Tammy Abraham in the box.

A penalty shoot-out resulted and youngster Abraham was the only player to miss. This resulted in Klopp’s side winning 5-4 on penalties and claiming some early season bragging rights.

Lampard can take positives from the game. His side were largely competitive against one of the best sides in the World. They also proved that they can score against the best which proves that they do have what it takes to get points against any team in the Premier League despite playing with a more youthful squad as compared to what they had during previous seasons.

The performance was certainly much more polished as compared to the shambolic display which took place against United.

Perhaps Klopp’s comments are actually misguided and he is struggling to accept the fact that his side were given a run for their money by Lampard’s youthful troops.
