Chelsea have in many ways overachieved this season as they sit fourth in the Premier League and two points clear of fifth place.
This has come on the back of a transfer ban last summer which hindered the club’s ability to make changes ahead of Frank Lampard’s first season in charge.
However, a quick glance at the last couple of months of play from Chelsea points to a downward trend which could lead to the Blues missing out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.
There has been so much promise this term but it is slowly being replaced by a realisation that more must be done in the summer transfer window to improve the squad.
An array of names have been linked with a move to Chelsea ahead of the next transfer window and here are the latest odds courtesy of SportNation.bet.
Jadon Sancho 4/1
There is perhaps no more logical place to start than Jadon Sancho.
Out of all of the players linked with Chelsea in the past several months, the 19-year-old is arguably the most sought after.
Sancho left Manchester City in 2017 to further his career in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and it has turned out to be a great decision.
The teenage sensation scored 12 goals and assisted 14 last season in the Bundesliga and has now bagged 12 and assisted 13 in just 19 league games this term.
Chelsea fans have urged Roman Abramovich to ‘break the bank’ for Sancho but the Blues would face competition from Manchester United.
Nathan Ake 7/2
The defender left Chelsea in 2017 and has since improved his reputation at Bournemouth.
It has led to speculation about his future and links with Chelsea, who need reinforcements at the back.
But Chelsea could face competition from the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham for the 24-year-old.
Wilfried Zaha 8/1
Another summer window will likely see Wilfried Zaha’s future in doubt once again.
Last summer it was Everton and Arsenal who were heavily linked with the 27-year-old.
Chelsea are now also in the mix but would face tough competition for his services.
Dries Mertens 4/1
Chelsea made a strong play for Dries Mertens from Napoli during the January transfer window but failed in their bid to land the forward.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and could be available for the Blues to pounce this time around.
Ben Chilwell 5/2
Chelsea have been linked with Ben Chilwell amid issues in the club’s defence.
The Leicester City star has taken his game to another level this season and played five times for England as well as starring for the Foxes.
Chelsea would face competition from the likes of Man City should they make a play for his services this summer.
Edinson Cavani 8/1
Just like the aforementioned Dries Mertens, Edinson Cavani of Paris Saint-Germain was another player who went close to signing for Chelsea last month.
Cavani is out of contract but made his first appearance for PSG since January 13 as he came off the bench in their 5-0 win against Montpellier last Saturday.
