Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing the England star throughout the summer, with United seeing two bids – the second of which was almost £70m – rejected.

United have only made two signings this summer, bringing in Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for £50m and Daniel James from Swansea for £17m.

They are also closing in on a deal worth over £9m for Monaco wonderkid Hannibal Mejbri, although he is unlikely to be part of the first-team squad next season.

If Maguire does complete his move to United, Solskjaer could allow Axel Tuanzebe to join Newcastle on loan for the season to aid his development.
